How an ESPOSIT Display Is Made: From Brief to Box

Many of the flat-pack wooden displays we sell are made in Italy by our partner ESPOSIT. Customers often ask how a display that arrives in a slim box can stand so solidly in a shop for years. The answer is a careful process, from the first sketch to the last box. Here is how it works, based on ESPOSIT’s own description of their factory and methods.

Key takeaways

  • Every custom project gets its own team that follows it from brief to delivery.
  • Designers study materials, joints and proportions, then build a modular, lightweight prototype.
  • Designs are programmed for CNC cutting with nesting, which makes the most of every board and keeps cuts precise.
  • Each piece is sanded by hand, then painted with water-based coatings or printed directly.
  • There’s a double quality check: production and packing compare notes on every board.
  • Parts are packed in custom cardboard boxes, built to survive long journeys and lots of handling.

1. The brief and the design

ESPOSIT doesn’t usually work from an architect’s finished drawings. Their customers are brand marketing teams, design studios and purchasing departments who arrive with an idea or a problem: a new product launch, a shop-in-shop or a trade fair. The design team talks to the customer about where the display will stand and what it needs to do. Then they work out the materials, joints, proportions and functions, and build a modular, lightweight prototype that fits the brand.

2. From drawing to CNC machine

Once the prototype is right, programmers translate it into machine code for CNC cutting with nesting. Nesting arranges all the parts on each board like a jigsaw, so less wood is wasted and every part is cut exactly the same. Trained staff watch every stage of the cut and step in if anything looks wrong.

The secret of the slot-together system is in these cuts. Joints like the "dogbone" slot let flat panels lock together firmly without screws or glue. We explain the joints in more detail in Slot-Together Displays Explained.

3. Finishing and branding

Every piece is sanded by hand so it is smooth to the touch, then prepared for painting or printing. ESPOSIT uses water-based coatings and direct printing to get clean finishes, strong colours and sharp logos. This is where a standard display becomes your brand’s display.

4. Quality control and packing

ESPOSIT runs a double quality check, comparing feedback from production with feedback from the packing team, "from the first to the last board". Then each display is packed in custom cardboard boxes designed to protect every part during long journeys and frequent handling. That’s why the flat-pack displays we deliver around Ireland arrive ready to slot together.

Why this matters for your shop

  • Consistency: CNC cutting means display number 50 is the same as display number 1, which matters for multi-store rollouts.
  • Flat-pack shipping: Slim boxes are easier to deliver, store and move between seasons.
  • Easy assembly: Slot-together joints mean no tools for most units.
  • Branding: Direct print and coloured finishes make a standard model look made-to-measure.
